Boryeong Mud Festival

Getting Dirty

After taking a considerable hiatus from my computer due to summer break in Thailand and a wonderful visit to Seoul from my baby sister, I’ve got loads of posts to roll out.

First up, Boryeong Mud Festival. Prior to going to this festival, I had heard nothing but rave reviews from every single expat in Korea who had previously attended. “Don’t miss it!”  “One of the best weekends I had in Korea!” “Amazing!” “Epic!” The festival not only lived up to my high expectations, but exceeded it.

Myself and five cohorts traveled south to Boryeong with Seoul Hiking Group on Saturday, July 14th with 450 of our closest friends. Somehow, The Warren, Seoul Hiking Group’s fearless leader, magically organized and managed the gathering and transportation of this enormous group without a hitch. Seoul Hiking Group deserves mad props for making this trip happen.

Mud wrestling, body painting and pure debauchery ensued as thousands of bikini-clad festival goers threw themselves into mud pits and consumed copious amounts of alcohol. Mudfest was a truly awesome experience!

These photos don’t even begin to capture the experience. For awesome muddy action shots, check out these incredible press shots here: Boryeong Mudfest 2012.
